"What's All the Fuss About? A Conversation about Critical Race Theory"

Concerns about Critical Race Theory (CRT) and its role in diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging education that have been surfacing throughout the country. DEIB school programming has been suspended in certain areas, school boards have been targeted and particular words and ideas have been singled out as damaging to the educational process.

Panelists Anthony Sigismondi and Roy Bradford Evans will address these concerns, defining what CRT is, what it is not and how it does or does not play a role in DEIB initiatives in educational programs throughout the country. Lakeland Campus Chaplain the Rev. Julie Mavity Maddalena, Ph.D., will serve as moderator.

Roy Bradford Evans is a Milwaukee native who attended Lakeland University on a football/basketball scholarship. He earned his Bachelor of Arts in Secondary Education at Mt. St. Paul College (Dominican College). In 1979, Evans earned a Law Degree (JD) from the University of Wisconsin-Madison Law School. Attorney Evans was noted by the Milwaukee Community Journal (1997) as one of the 100 most influential blacks in Milwaukee. In 2013, he was recognized with a Milwaukee Times Black Achiever Award for his legal contributions to the Milwaukee community. Evans has been an adjunct instructor and has taught in over 50 Milwaukee Public schools while maintaining his business law practice.
