Joshua Kutney joined Lakeland in 2005 and currently serves as Executive Vice President / Vice President for Academic Affairs, leading the university’s efforts to promote a distinctive academic vision and sustain a vibrant culture of teaching and learning.
A tenured professor, Kutney earned his Ph.D. at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and teaches courses in academic and technical writing, educational philosophy, and critical thinking. He has presented and published on a range of topics related to the teaching and learning of writing.
In his community work, Kutney has developed academic programs for high school students; collaborated on literacy grants in Malawi, Africa; and partnered with local government to address the needs of the community's aging population.
Kutney's service to the Lakeland community was recognized with the 2020-2021 Big Fish Award. In 2023, he was named by BizTimes as one of the region’s Notable Leaders in Higher Education.
