String theory: Sherrard Elementary students are learning ukulele

Music educators across the country are facing enormous challenges in adjusting their teaching due to COVID-19.

Emma Tully, a student in Lakeland’s Master of Music in Music Education – Kodaly Emphasis program, has risen to this challenge. Emma recently expanded the instrumental program for all fourth grade students at Sherrard Elementary in Illinois to include training in playing the ukelele. She adapted the ukelele program and secured funding to ensure that remote students continue to have access to an instrument and can fully participate in the program.
