VIDEO: Tropical Ecology in Belize course

Lakeland has offered its rigorous, rewarding Tropical Ecology in Belize course seven times over the past 14 years.

Created by biology professors Paul Pickhardt and Greg Smith, the study abroad course invites students to conduct research in the rainforest of Belize in Central America.

This past May, Pickhardt and biochemistry professor Jered McGivern led six students through the 15-day trip to Belize Foundation for Research & Environmental Education (BFREE BZ), a private, protected area of 1,153 acres which adjoins the largest tract of rainforest north of the Amazon.

Check out this amazing video about the course, which includes footage shot by Pickhardt.
