The Individual and the Community

Patrick Parr, an author and Lakeland University-Japan faculty member, will deliver a talk entitled “The Individual and the Community”.

The event is a convocation for Lakeland students.

Parr is the author of “Malcom Before X;” “One Week in America: The 1968 Notre Dame Literary Festival and a Changing Nation;” and “The Seminarian: Martin Luther King Jr. Comes of Age.” He also writes for Japan Today about historical figures.

The first part of the talk will be centered on civil rights icons Malcolm X and Dr. King, and the obstacles they faced in prison and seminary, respectively. He will expand the talk by providing other examples of historical figures facing challenges in their early 20s and show how we can learn from their experiences and apply them to our own lives.

Copies of his books will be available for purchase.
