Dr. Edgar Ulloa Lujan came to Lakeland in 2025 from East Harlem Tutorial Program, where he developed and implemented curriculum for high school Spanish courses. He has also taught as a teaching assistant at Georgetown University, where he was appointed as the instructor of record for intensive immediate Spanish.
His research focuses on cultural studies, immigration, orientalism, Mexican history and Mexico-U.S. Border visual culture. He has a forthcoming monograph under contract with Texas Tech University Press as part of the “Global Borderlands” series, and his creative work - including poetry, performance art and multimedia collaborations - has been featured in literary journals, anthologies, and festivals such as the PEN World Voices Festival and the Mexico Now Festival.
Ulloa Lujan has a bachelor's degree in Spanish with a minor in secondary education from the University of Texas at El Paso, a master of fine arts (M.F.A.) in creative writing in Spanish from New York University, and both a master of science and a doctorate in Spanish literature and cultural studies from Georgetown University.
