Nisansala Wickramasinghe, Ph.D.

Visiting Professor of Data Science

Dr. Wickramasinghe joined Lakeland in 2025. She came from the University of Texas at Dallas, where she earned her Ph.D. in data science and statistics and served as a graduate teaching assistant, mentoring students in machine learning, statistical methods and mathematics courses. She most recently worked as a post- doctoral researcher at the Versiti Blood Research Institute, where she collaborated with bioinformaticians and clinicians on integrative analyses, providing guidance on statistical methods and ensuring rigorous application of appropriate analytical techniques.

Her research interests include machine learning, deep learning, statistical inference, compositional data analysis, and predictive modeling, with applications in biomedical data, microbiome studies, and high-dimensional datasets. Wickramasinghe has developed novel computational methods for RNA editing detection and reference region construction, and she has presented her work at national and international conferences.

Wickramasinghe has a bachelor's in statistics from the University of Peradeniya in Sri Lanka, a master's in mathematics from Western Illinois University, and both a master's in statistics with a specialization in data science and a doctorate in data science and statistics from the University of Texas at Dallas.
