2021 Fall Semester at Lakeland University

Safely Operating our Campus & Centers

This page includes details about how Lakeland plans to operate during the fall 2021 semester.

As in the past, Lakeland will continue to work with Sheboygan County Public Health and follow their guidance regarding COVID-19.

We continue to see encouraging progress in the fight against COVID-19 both on campus and in the broader community. Cases in Sheboygan have dropped to their lowest level since spring of 2020 and a growing number of adults living in Sheboygan County have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.

As of the end of July, we know that at least 90% of Lakeland employees have received at least one dose of vaccine. Based on our most recent survey, we believe more than half of the students who will be taking in-person classes at the main campus have been vaccinated or plan to do so. We continue to work with any students who need assistance accessing a vaccine before their return to campus.

The growing medical evidence on the effectiveness of vaccination and the number of vaccinated individuals in our community give us confidence that we can move ahead with plans to resume more typical campus operations.

We look forward to seeing everyone this fall!

Here’s what we expect the fall will look like:

COVID-19 vaccination is strongly encouraged; however, it is not required. As campus returns to typical operations, vaccinated individuals are protected, but unvaccinated individuals are not, so it is particularly important for those who are unvaccinated to continue to mask. We recognize that some people have medical conditions that prevent them from receiving full protection from vaccination.

Although many of us have a natural inclination to want to know that others around us are vaccinated, it is important to remember that the single best action we can take to protect ourselves is to get vaccinated. Once a person is vaccinated, they have the highest level of protection.

Face masks will be required for all individuals, regardless of vaccination status, in Main Campus or Kellett Center public indoor spaces when the county in which the facility is located is experiencing substantial or high transmission of COVID-19. Click here to see current transmission levels.

We recommend that unvaccinated individuals should continue to protect themselves and others by wearing masks indoors and outdoors where people are gathered. Anyone, regardless of vaccination status, may choose to wear a mask. Choosing to wear a mask does not indicate vaccination status.

Please note, this policy could change based on CDC, state and/or local public health guidelines.

We will continue to PCR test all symptomatic students/employees. Employees and students will schedule their own testing appointments through their MyPrevea app. You can login online here or get access to download the app to your phone. Testing will take place in the on-campus Wellness Center on the first floor of Brotz Hall.

Quarantine Policy

Lakeland will implement a quarantine protocol for:

  • Students, faculty and/or staff who test positive for COVID-19.
  • Students, faculty and/or staff who are identified as having been exposed to COVID-19 through contact tracing. Students or employees who have or can show records they have been fully vaccinated at the time of the contact tracing investigation will not be required to quarantine unless they are symptomatic.
  • Rooms have been set aside in the Suites for residential students who need to quarantine.

  • Rooms have been set aside in the Suites for residential students who need to quarantine.
  • Classrooms at the main campus and our Kellett centers will operate at 75% capacity and follow the university masking policy. As a result, we anticipate having very few cohorted classes.
  • The Kellett School will return to its full range of course offerings – BlendEd, BlendEd Live and face-to-face.

Move-in dates are as follows:

  • August 28, 9 a.m.-4 p.m.: First-year & transfer students
  • August 29, 9 a.m.-4 p.m.: Founders Club & sophomores
  • August 30 & 31, 9 a.m.-4 p.m.: Juniors and seniors

A table with representatives from Prevea Health will be the first stop as part of the move-in process. Students will be required to show their vaccination status. Lakeland is not requiring students to get a COVID-19 vaccine. This information is being collected by Prevea to allow Lakeland to effectively implement the quarantine policy outlined above. Any symptomatic students at move-in will need to PCR test per the testing policy above.

Additional details about move-in day will be coming soon.

Residence Life will supply sanitizing agents for students to use, and we encourage students to bring their own.

Commuter students and Kellett School students taking evening courses who plan to attend face-to-face courses will be required to show their vaccination status to Prevea Health. More information about how this process will work will be shared soon.

Dining services will return to pre-pandemic service, which includes:

  • All-you-care-to-eat breakfast, lunch and dinner on the main food line.
  • A return to self-service salad bar, pizza and desserts.
  • A sub shop will be part of the Muskie Grill area on Monday-Friday from 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m. and Tuesday & Saturday from 6-8:30 p.m.

Other important Dining Services notes:

  • Seating capacity in the main dining area on the second floor of the Campus Center will be 75%.
  • Dinner hours will be extended – Monday-Thursday from 5-8 p.m. and Friday from 4:30-7:30 p.m.
  • The Pub will be located on the first floor next to the Daily Grind.
  • The Daily Grind will be offering more breakfast and lunch choices.

On-campus guests are permitted in residence halls and are strongly encouraged to convene in the common spaces. Off-campus guests will not be permitted in the residence halls. Overnight guests (both on- and off-campus) will not be permitted. We are taking these steps to continue to ensure the safety and well-being of our residents while we manage COVID-19. Should anything change, Residence Life will communicate this to students.

  • We anticipate full schedules in all sports and we will follow local health, Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference and NCAA guidelines. Many of our team’s schedules are available at lakelandmuskies.com. We will share more information when it becomes available.
  • All Co-Curricular Campus Life programming will return to pre-pandemic status with outdoor and indoor programming. Greek life, student organizations and clubs will return to pre-pandemic status. All participants should follow the university mask policy.
