Lakeland University Hosts State-Required HTST Pasteurizer Operator Training for Wisconsin Dairy Professionals
Lakeland University is proud to host the HTST Pasteurizer Operator Training Workshop on April 9, welcoming approximately 100 Wisconsin dairy processing professionals to campus.
This state-required workshop is held in partnership with the Wisconsin Association for Food Protection (WAFP) and the Division of Food and Recreational Safety at the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP).
The workshop provides essential training and certification for pasteurizer operators, a requirement for legally operating pasteurization systems in Wisconsin. This training is critical to the continued success of Wisconsin’s dairy industry.

The workshop aligns directly with Lakeland’s Food Safety & Quality program, which prepares students for careers in food research and development and the safe production of food.
The program blends biology, chemistry, and best business practices to develop well-rounded professionals ready for today’s food industry. Lakeland students gain hands-on experience in our state-of-the-art lab and learn directly from food industry leaders through our Cooperative Education program — reflecting the university’s strong engagement with workforce needs and real-world food safety practices.
Additionally, Leili Afsah-Hejri, Ph.D., Lakeland’s Food Safety and Quality program director and assistant professor of chemistry and food safety & quality, currently serves as president of the Wisconsin Association for Food Protection.
